Virtues of Quran Reading
This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqoon [the pious]
[Quran Al-Baqarah 2:2]The Quran was revealed for human beings to guide them and make their lives smoother. Allah Almighty has promised great rewards and virtues for reading and following the Quran.
“Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect.” [Quran Al-Hashr 59:21]
In the Quran and Hadith, countless rewards are promised for those who learn the Quran and practice its teachings. Each letter of the Quran earns you 10 virtues. The virtues of the glorious Quran are highlighted in various Hadiths:
An authentic Hadith in At-Tirmidhi states:
“Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward, and that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am saying that “Alif” is a letter, “Laam” is a letter, and “Meem” is a letter.” So increase your recitation of the Qur’an to gain these merits, and to gain the following merit as well.”When beginners start to learn Quran, they may not be fluent or smooth with reading, particularly if they are not well-versed in Arabic. However, their effort is rewarded doubly. A Hadith related by Ayesha Siddiqah states:
“Verily, the one who recites the Qur’an beautifully, smoothly, and precisely, he will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. And as for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, then he will have TWICE that reward.”[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]
One of the countless benefits of reading the Quran is that it will intercede on the Day of Judgment for its readers. Allah elevates the status of Muslims by the Quran in both this world and the hereafter. The more you recite, learn, and practice, the higher your status becomes.
Reading the Quran also brings peace, happiness, and prosperity into a Muslim’s life. It dispels worries and regrets through the blessings of the Quran.
“Those who believe [in the Oneness of Allah, Islamic Monotheism], and whose hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah, verily, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”(Quran 13:28)
