Importance of Learning the Quran

Allah, Most Gracious, says:

"Truly there is a reminder in this for anyone who has a heart, or who listens attentively with presence of mind." (Qaf 50:37)

On numerous occasions, the Quran emphasizes the importance of learning its teachings. The Quran invites believers to learn the Quran. However, learning the Quran is more than just reading; it involves thoughtful study of the divine messages and instructions sent by Allah for the welfare of humanity. The Quran says:

"It is simply a reminder and a clear Qur'an so that you may warn those who are truly alive.” (Ya Sin 36:69-70)

Not learning the Quran is not an option for Muslims. Allah has made learning the Quran a responsibility for every believer. As Allah says in the Quran:

"Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect.” (Al-Hashr 59:21)

The Glorious Quran is the fountainhead of all knowledge. It is the most authentic and accurate source of information on Islam, faith, society, ethics, and nature. Believers who recite, learn, and impart the teachings of the Quran are considered noble in the sight of Allah. He has promised gracious, honorable, and lofty rewards for those who learn the Quran.

With Reference to Hadith

“The best amongst you is he who learns the Quran and teaches it.”

From this saying of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), it is evident that it is obligatory for each Muslim to teach and learn the Quran. The Prophet himself was a preacher of the Quran, and his noble companions were its learners. The Quran brought a revolution in their lives, making them the best Muslims of this Ummah due to their understanding of the Quran under the guidance of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

Though we are not able to experience the grace of the Prophet directly today, the Quran remains the ultimate source of guidance for Muslims. As the Prophet (peace be upon him) said:

"O people, I am leaving behind among you the Holy Book (Quran) and the Sunnah (way of the Prophet). If you follow these in letter and spirit, you will never be led astray." (Hakim Al-Mustadrik, Book 1, Hadith 318)

Do not worry if you are not proficient in reading the Quran. Start learning the Quran today. By the grace of Allah, Quran learning has become easier through online sessions and courses. Allah will assist you in completing the Quran, and there is double the reward for those who strive to learn the Quran, as stated in a hadith:

"Verily, the one who recites the Quran beautifully, smoothly, and precisely will be in the company of the noble and obedient angels. As for the one who recites with difficulty, stammering or stumbling through its verses, they will have TWICE the reward." (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

From the Quran and Hadith, it is clear that it is essential to learn the Quran, practice its teachings in our lives, and convey its message to others. This will guide us to live a blessed and purposeful life, ensuring success in the hereafter.
